Stop the corruption!

Check this great Blog on a active Nigerian website.

quote
"I have kept the silence on this issue for a while and i have decided to make this point clear that Nigeria as a nation does not need aid from The United nation or The World Bank and more.
It is clear that Nigeria is rich enough to supply every necessity to the needy with its resources available and its only a curse to Nigeria by accepting AID from the richer countries or the developed countries.Research shows that 99.9% of Aid sent to Nigeria is been siphoned in some one else´s account while those who needs the Aid are in deeper problems than those who steals from the Government´s account.
In my opinion Nigeria is got a lot more than any country on this planet and let me explain a bit further about what this so called AID does to our beloved country negatively.
Why do we need help to take care of the people living with Aids/Hiv in Nigeria?
Why do we need help for those who die from common malaria that is not epidemic?
Why do we need Paris Club to loan Nigeria money?
Why do we need help from World Bank to loan Nigeria money?
Why can´t Nigeria take care of the poor in Nigeria?
Why is it that every one who comes to power in Nigeria is thinking of looting the economy?
Why is it that power becomes a tradition to certain people in Nigeria?
Why does Nigeria depends too much on Crude oil/Gas and neglects the rest of other valuable natural resources that we have?
When will we stand up as a people and tell those in power that this is enough and we cant take this any more?
When will we drop the idea of it will be well and wake up from our sleep and tell them we have had enough of this hopes as we deserve a change for a better Nigeria.
We are clever and smart people but the more we sit back and let our right´s drown in front our eyes, then we might not have the chance to answer the future generation a question they will sure ask us some day, what will be our answer to them about our failed States and Nation?

If Nigeria becomes great our future will be greater for our children´s children."

Now in my own opinion as a Europian, i was first clueless of these issues.
Every body wants to help and send funds, but why do so if it ends in the wrong pockets.
There should be something else we can do.
That Nigerians can do.
I was like, cant they sign a petition, cant they go on strike.
Its not that easy.
Nigeria is a democracy, but when people protest against this injustice there not being heard.
For example,
Nigerian police gets such low pay that it would be hard to blame them for taking a bribe.
There income is just not enough, and they are the ones people rely on to fight crime.
When the police goes on strike for a better pay, there not being heard and it ends up with people dying during their strike.
That is the government their responsibility.
One voice that stands up will be silenced by bribe, manipulation or by life threats on them or family.
Isnt this terribly inhumane?
Nobody can Question those leaders?
It surprised me.
How can anyone get away with killing?

Only when corruption stops at the top will it stop at the bottom.
People need good jobs, hospitals, education.
In stead of emigrating and having to send money to their country.
It pains so much Nigerians.

Why is Nigeria with all their resources exporting unprocessed oil for them then to import the finished product. What kind of financial plan is that?
Even though its all about Nigeria on CNN these days on business issues.

I'm hearing so much things that as a European just surprise me.
I take it for granted how the system works in my own country.
People shouldn't be so clueless and REALLY help out.

Nigeria is so big, there isnt one voice...
Their are 150 000 000 people of different tribes who could of been individual countries if not for England.
All those voices cant be silenced!!
Why are Nigerians so scared, are they scared when they take the first step to protest for progress that nobody will follow?
Belgium wasn't always like this, people had to stand up and fight for their children and grandchildren to be ok.
As i'm ok and privileged.
With schools, Unions, jobs.

Inflation affects us , yes but how about Africa?

Stand up as one, and Europe keep your eyes open.
Cause Nigeria is on the move!

I will make a petition tomorrow anyway,
I know i'm not the only person who is upset by injustice.

Greetings from Belgium-»(¯`v´¯)-»-,

1000 inmates are awaiting the hangman in Nigeria’s prisons

1000 inmates are awaiting the hangman in Nigeria’s prisons
John Oziegbe is a senior partner with Partnership for Justice. In this encounter, he answers questions on the situation of human rights in Nigeria and the justice system generally. Excerpt.

How would you rate the human rights situation in Nigeria.

The greatest area of human rights abuse is continuous detention of persons for years in prisons without trial. The nation’s prisons are continuously over congested because of the upsurge of awaiting trial persons. Over 60% of prisoners are awaiting trial.

How would you assess the Nigeria Police in this regards?

The police and other law enforcement agencies kill innocent people on the streets and go scot free.

The rate of extra judicial killings have increased beyond our imaginations even in a civil regime. Any criminal justice reform that has failed to address these fundamental problems undermines citizens’ constitutional rights to innocence until proven guilty.

This is sad and unfortunate for the present regime that propagates the strict adherence to the rule of law. The incident of torture, inhuman and degrading punishment some Nigerians are subjected at police stations and other detention centres are better imagined than experienced.

No regime permits the use of torture as a means of soliciting information or otherwise from suspected criminals. The right to freedom from torture, inhuman and degrading treatment is non derogable.

This means that at no time whatsoever are states or its agencies allowed to treat persons in such unacceptable manner.

Would you say the people on death row are receiving fair treatment?

An estimated 1000 people crowd the nation’s death rows-a record number. Some have gone mentally ill while waiting for the hang man. Some have been affected with various diseases that are life threatening. It is obvious that executions lag behind death sentences in Nigeria and the death-row population keeps growing.

We must address this issue and take a stance on whether to abolish death penalty for certain crimes or for some crimes or adopt an official moratorium on executions.

What advice do you have for government on the issues you have raised?

Considering the spate of killings across the country, it is only pertinent that the federal government as a matter of urgency to set up independent judicial inquiries to check the increasing rate of extra judicial killings.

It is also crucial for the Federal Government and civil society organizations to design programes focused on highlighting the needs to end the spate of extra-judicial killings and to bring perpetrators to justice.

This will not only help strengthen judicial institutions but public perception of the justice system.
